An employee of Ohio’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles is getting his job back after being fired for illegally using the state’s computer system to access confidential records on American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox.

Jay Wright, a 17-year department employee was fired and charged with a felony in connection with accessing the singer’s personal information. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, misdemeanor unauthorized use of property. He received a suspended 30-day jail sentence for the crime.

The union grieved the state of Ohio demanding his job be reinstated, and under a settlement agreement, Wright will be back on the job on Dec. 6.  He will not receive pay for the 5 months while he was terminated, but the state agreed to credit him with vacation time and sick leave.
