The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday evening and gave a preliminary approval on a measure to ban McDonald’s Happy Meals within the city limits. The supervisors passed the measure with an 8-3 vote, the minimum needed to overturn a veto by S.F. Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Supervisor Eric Mar, the main promoter of the new law said, “This is a tremendous victory for our children’s health.” The new law imposes restrictions on fast food restaurants that include a toy with a meal, unless it passes certain guidelines mandated by the Supervisors. It’s unlikely that parents will be happy with the new law, since they will have to drive outside the city limits in order to allow their kids the Happy Meal experience.
