The report just issued by the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General has named former U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan as the biggest over spender on travel allowances of the 93 attorneys that it reviewed. During the period 2007 through 2009, Buchanan’s reimbursements exceeded allowable allowances for lodging by $4,221.

The 57 page report examined the travel costs of federal prosecutors and determined that the majority of them complied with department guidelines. The report noted new procedures put into effect this year, after criticism by outsiders that prosecutors were allowed to approve their own travel expenses.
