A 20-year veteran of the Snohomish County sheriff’s department was caught having sex while on duty, after dispatchers and other officers heard moaning over the dispatch radio.

Seattle TV station KOMO reported the incident after obtaining the information in a public records request. The officer, Steve Coney, a sergeant, was having intimate relations with the 23-year old woman for months before he was fired. He admitted to spending as much as two hours with her at a time while on the clock.

The news report said that Coney had met the woman in November 2009, and that she was interested in becoming a deputy. Investigators found text messages from her on his work phone, posing in lingerie. Coney said he was having marital problems at the time.

The deputy was fired just before Thanksgiving. The sheriff’s office called the matter a personal, not a criminal issue.
