Nearly everyone knows that gifts to public officials must be disclosed by virtue of most state and local laws- that is unless it happens to be the mayor of North Miami. According to the The Miami Herald, Mayor Andre Pierre spent the summer cruising around in a luxury Porsche Panamera, even though he wasn’t sure who gave it to him.
Although the car would typically have a monthly lease value of between $1,000 and $2,000, Pierre didn’t feel compelled to include it on his most recent financial disclosure form. On that same form, Pierre disclosed free dry cleaning services over a five month period of $800.
Once officials get their head around the apparent use of the Porsche “gift”, one might ask why it’s OK for the mayor to routinely accept free dry cleaning.
